Qualification Programs

United States

To meet the requirements of the Millwright Qualification Program in the United States, a member must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Complete a millwright apprenticeship program recognized by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
  2. Document 10,000 hours of millwright work experience prior to January 1, 1996. Any upgrade training classes approved by the local Joint Apprenticeship Committee, and successfully completed by the journeyperson may be included in the 10,000-hour requirement.
  3. Complete written and manipulative equivalency testing. (About testing)
  4. If a person holding a Qualified Millwright card is released from three jobs because of skill deficiencies, that member is required to retake all Millwright Qualification tests. After the testing is complete, the member will receive the necessary retraining.
